What a poignant and deeply gratifying piece of introspection! The extended metaphor of Ceding the Wheel brilliantly captured the interplay between willful passivity and white-knuckle neuroticism. As a young person on the verge of adulthood, those feelings of existential vacillation and self-consciousness hit a bit too close to home. It reminded me of the Sartre quote from Being and Nothingness, that: “Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does.”
I admire and envy you in the least threatening way possible. As someone who is constantly drowning in his own thoughts, fears, questions, failures, with an inability to celebrate successes or process emotions properly, or articulate any of it, I envy and appreciate your seamlessness. You offer a front row seat to your unraveling and somehow the end result is this tapestry of temperance.(cringe I know) Nonetheless, thank you for showing me it's possible. Whenever you put out a masterclass, I'll be there cash in hand. Also, your IG brought me here to substack and I'm never leaving.
